Our History

The Patent Attorney Office of  VON FÜNER EBBINGHAUS FINCK HANO was founded in 1964 by Dr. Ottmar Dittmann, Karl-Ludwig Schiff and Dr. Alexander von Füner.

At present, the partners in the Office are Dr. Ing. Dieter Finck, Dipl.-Ing. Christian Hano and Dr. Nicolai von Füner, who are assisted by associates and a staff of about thirty five paralegals and translators.

Dr. Ing. Dieter Finck, Dipl.-Ing. Christian Hano and Dr. Nicolai von Füner are German Patent Attorneys as well as European Patent and Trademark Attorneys, authorized to represent clients before the German and European Patent Offices and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM).

The work on the cases is split up among the partners according to the relevant technical field. Dr. Nicolai von Füner is chemist and works on all kinds of chemical cases. Dr. Dieter Finck and Christian Hano are mechanical engineers and cover cases in the field of mechanical engineering and physics.

The three partners are also involved in the usual intellectual property services, particularly trademarks, utility models, designs, licensing, litigation and employees invention cases. With the aid of reliable associates, we handle intellectual property cases throughout the world and especially in Armenia, Azerbaidzhan, Belorussia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Yugoslavia and the People's Republic of China.

We have our own representations in Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Albania, Kosovo and Mongolia.



Dieter Finck
Dr.Ing., Dipl. Ing. Dieter Finck

Born in Nuremberg 1938. Studied general mechanical engineering at Munich's Technical University, graduating as Dipl. Ing. in 1961. Engineer on MS Rungholtsand, a merchant ship. Worked as a member of the scientific staff of the Institute of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer of Munich in the field of burnout of nuclear reactors. Doctorate in engineering in 1968. German Patent Attorney since 1970. Speaks English and French, member of AIPLA. Very special knowledge in thermodynamics, heat transfer and nuclear reactors; experienced in employees' invention affairs. Author of publications relating to tunnel kilns and burnout problems. Specialist for wines. Grown old icehockey and tennis player. Presently the only golfer in the partnership.


Christian Hano
Dipl.-Ing. Christian Hano

Born in Munich 1959. Studied general mechanical engineering at the Munich's Technical University, graduate in engineering in 1987. German and European Patent Attorney since 1991, speaks English, Russian and French. Special knowledge in the fields of machine tool building, internal combustion engines, technology of mechanism design and turbine construction. Extensive experience in international agreements relating to the protection of industrial property rights (PCT, Madrid Agreement, Madrid Protocol, EPC, CTM) and matters concerning the successor states of the former Soviet Union. Member of the Board of the German Patent Attorneys' Association, member of FICPI, INTA and ECTA. Likes to spend his leisure time either skiing, cycling and hiking in the alps, or in the garage beneath his vintage cars.


Nicolai v. Füner
Dr. rer. nat. , Dipl. Chem. Nicolai von Füner

Born in Munich 1963. Studied chemistry at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, graduating in 1994 as Dr. rer. nat. German Patent Attorney since 1997 and European Patent Attorney since 1999, speaks English and Russian, passive command of French. Experienced in the field of chemical patents and trademarks, especially in Eastern European countries and the Asian successor states of the former Soviet Union. Member of AIPPI, INTA and ECTA. Collects American Indian art. Plays softball.
