VAT on Official Fees in Kazakhstan

leiste

From September 11, 2000, all fees payable to Kazpatent (Patent Office of Kazakhstan) have become subject to a value added tax of twenty percent. Kazpatent has been requesting payment of the VAT for all fees which have been paid since that date, and there is presently nothing to do about the additional payment.

Apparently, this change has occurred in connection with the new Laws on Patents and Trademarks, however, up to now there has not been given any official explanation.

The Association of Patent Attorneys of Kazakhstan has turned to the patent authorities to express their disagreement with this practice.

We hope to be able to provide further information on this development in the near future on our website.
